Data boundaries and evidence standard

This page describes what EcoSpace currently collects, what it does not establish, and the minimum evidence required before a comparison can be published.

How records are labelled

Each new record is marked as meteorological_context and stores the product name, source query URL, method version, and limitation note.

The coordinate may represent a registered headquarters or another stored company coordinate. It is not assumed to be an operating asset or representative of a company’s full footprint.

What this data can and cannot support

Appropriate use
  • Describe recent location-level meteorological context.
  • Help a researcher decide whether a disclosure or a source needs further review.
  • Keep a source query and limitation note with a climate-context record.
Not supported today
  • Company or facility emissions measurement or verification.
  • Atmospheric CO₂, NDVI, deforestation, MODIS, Sentinel, or asset-condition analysis.
  • Automatic gap scores, greenwashing claims, compliance decisions, risk ratings, or audit conclusions.

Evidence standard for future comparisons

  1. 1. Comparable measures: reported and observed values must use the same unit, boundary, and time window.
  2. 2. Traceable source: retain a direct report, dataset, or query URL; product/version; processing method; and quality flags.
  3. 3. Scope: identify the asset, organisational boundary, spatial coverage, and limitations.
  4. 4. Human review: a reviewer must record notes and mark the evidence as reviewed before it appears as a comparison.

Independence and attribution

EcoSpace uses publicly available NASA POWER data. NASA has not reviewed or endorsed EcoSpace or its findings. Results are screening information, not verification, assurance, compliance advice, or a measurement of company emissions. When reusing NASA data, follow the applicable NASA data-use policy.
